2nd Annual IEEE Picnic Summary
IEEE Members and Friends,
We just had our 2nd annual IEEE
picnic at Kincaid Park Chalet. I appreciate the great turn
out this year, there was about 32 people all together.
Everyone helped make it a successful and fun picnic.

The weather was fantastic with
a slight breeze and clear blue skies overhead, couldn't have
picked a better day.

I would encourage more people
to attend the 3rd annual IEEE picnic for summer 2008.
Also I would like to give a
special thanks to Aung our 2007 secretary for helping me
shop and prepare the food for the picnic and Harry our 2007
chair did a great job cooking on the bbq grill.
I appreciate everyone's support
in making this years picnic a great success.
Thank you,
Steven Kaleta, P.E.

IEEE Position Statement on
B+30
Issue / P.E. Licensure
On June 15, 2007 the IEEE-USA
Board of Directors approved a
position statement on
education requirements for licensure in the United States.
The statement neither supports nor opposes the National
Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)
recent revision to its Model Law, requiring all engineers
applying for licensure obtain an additional 30 credit hours
of engineering education, in addition to the baccalaureate
degree from an ABET-accredited engineering education
program.
The State of Alaska Board of
Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors
is in opposition to the NCEES requirement, and has no plans
to adopt that portion of the Model Law structure for Alaskan
license seekers.
The IEEE Alaska Section and
IEEE Region 6 Executive Committees have presented opposing
viewpoints to IEEE-USA adopting a supportive position of the
NCEES Model Law Change. IEEE Members concerned about this issue
and the impact to the public and profession should send
their comments to John Meredith, IEEE-USA President. Contact
for Mr. Meredith can be found at the IEEE-USA website
http://www.ieeeusa.org/about/3Ps_profiles.asp.
Please visit
www.ieee-alaska.org
to review the IEEE position statement.
