This document describes both general and specific responsibilities of the Membership Development Committee Chair, to assist in meeting the committee’s responsibilities and annual objectives. The Membership Development Committee is a standing committee serving as part of the Executive Committee within the Alaska Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. per Article V, Section 10, Subsection 2 of the IEEE Alaska Section Bylaws.
The general function, purpose and responsibilities of the Membership Development Committee are as outlined within the aforementioned Bylaws section. The committee shall actively promote membership in the IEEE and shall encourage qualified individuals to obtain membership, and existing members to advance to the highest grade for which they are qualified. To these ends, this committee shall maintain a list of members qualified for advancement, and shall provide information and assistance in preparing applications for elevation Student Members shall be encouraged to become Members following graduation. Senior Member status and Fellow nominations shall be actively pursued for eligible Members.
Attends all Monthly Section Executive Committee meetings
Attends General Membership meetings to report on, and promote Membership Development programs
Maintains membership statistics for the Section and all subunits within the geographic area of the Alaska Section
Develops and administer membership development programs to meet annual goals
Coordinates efforts of the committee and its members to achieve the annual goals
Maintains membership statistics for the Section and all subunits within the geographic area of the Alaska Section
Specific Responsibilities/Relationships:
Receives monthly mailings of Section membership statistics from IEEE Operations Center
Maintains a current record of Section membership
Analyzes Section membership information and identifying membership problems and opportunities
Submits requests as needed for membership development materials, including posters and applications, to IEEE Operations Center staff
Communicates regularly with Regional Membership Development officer
Manages the Section membership database (SAMIeee)
Serves as resource to members seeking information on Senior member elevations
Identifies opportunities for recruitment and elevation within the Section
Provides regular membership status report with recommendations to Section Executive Committee
