PACE COMMITTEE CHAIR

Position Overview

This document describes both general and specific responsibilities of the ‘Professional Activities Committee for Engineers’ (PACE) Committee Chair, to assist in meeting the committee’s mission and annual objectives.  The PACE Committee is a standing committee serving as part of the Executive Committee within the Alaska Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. per Section 10, Subsection 4 of the IEEE Alaska Section Bylaws.  The general function, purpose and responsibilities of the committee are as outlined within the aforementioned Bylaws section.  The Chairs of standing committees within the Executive Committee are appointed by the Section Chair, with the approval of the Executive Committee, and PACE Committee members are appointed by the PACE Committee Chair, with the approval of the Executive Committee, per Section 9 of the IEEE Alaska Section Bylaws.

 

General Responsibilities:

¨        The PACE Committee Chair is responsible for developing and implementing projects, programs, and services to enhance the professional awareness and development of Section members and the professional affairs of the Section.

¨        Responsible for enlisting and leading Section PACE Committee members, as needed, to meet committee goals.  There is no specific requirement for the number of committee members, or their service terms.  Other ExCom members can serve as PACE Committee members on an ad-hoc basis.

¨        Works in conjunction with other Section Executive Committee Chairs and Officers to support Section projects and activities, with emphasis on:

·   Member and student professional awareness

·   Pre-college education activities

·   Professional / technical conferences, seminars, and courses

·   Professional growth and career support & development

¨        Serves as the Section’s PACE Network representative, coordinating with the Region 6/Northwest Area PACE Chairs to promote and meet regional and national PACE goals and objectives.

¨        Represents the IEEE and the Section to the general public and other engineering societies through participation in local/state engineering councils and committees

 

Specific Responsibilities

¨        Develops PACE  projects and coordinates the committee to implement them

¨        Attends and participates in all Section Executive Committee meetings and reports on PACE activities.

¨        Serves as the IEEE representative in National Engineers Week (NEW) Steering Committee meetings, and reports to the Executive Committee on the committee’s regular meetings and project status.

¨        Assists and supports the Section’s Educational Activities, Government Activities, Student Activities, and Awards chairs in planning and implementing their projects, as requested or needed.

¨        Participates in National/Regional/Area PACE conferences and meetings, through attendance and representation of the Section.  Specific annual conferences include the Professional Development Conference, and the IEEE-USA Workshop.  Dates and locations for each conference can vary.

¨        Disseminates information on PACE and IEEE-USA news, projects, both local and national, to the benefit of Section members

¨        Solicits input from members on their professional support and career-building needs, and implements programs to meet those needs

Below is a listing of typical items, projects, and task of which the committee chair is responsible for during a standard year.  The list is not comprehensive, and can be modified and/or expanded to include special projects, as deemed necessary and approved by the Executive Committee or the Section Chair.
