1. FUNCTION. The Student Activities Chair manages various student activity projects and promotes student participation in the Section.
2. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Alaska Science and Engineering Fair:
– Responsible for coordinating with the Anchorage School District to arrange for Section participation into the Fair, including Section donation, IEEE Judges, Trophies, Ribbons, Calculators, Participation Letters and School Plaques with School Donation.
– Responsible for the application to the PACE Chair for PACE project funding for the fair.
2. IEEE Student Paper Contest:
– Responsible for coordinating with the UAF Student Branch Counselor on the paper contest and any prizes/awards to be given from the Section to first, second and third place winners. Depending on Executive Committee approval, trips to Fairbanks and the Northwest Area competitions may be included.
3. IEEE Scholarships:
– Responsible for coordinating with the UAF Student Branch Counselor on the candidates chosen by the Electrical Engineering Department for the Robert Merritt Scholarship and the Harold Smith scholarship awarded at the yearly Awards Banquet.
4. Fall Awards Banquet:
– Responsible for arranging for the local field trip in Anchorage for the Students that come down from Fairbanks for the banquet. Coordination with the UAF Student Branch Counselor is required to determine student interests.
– Responsible for coordinating with the UAF Student Branch Counselor to arrange for student housing and a Section breakfast for the students who traveled down from Fairbanks for the banquet.
– Responsible for presenting the student scholarships and describing the student projects that the Section participated in during the banquet.
5. UAF End-of-Year Picnic – is responsible for coordinating with the UAF Student Branch Counselor for Section financial participation and presentation of Student Paper awards. Depending on Executive Committee approval, a trip to Fairbanks may be included.
6. UAF Student Branch Attendance – depending on Executive Committee approval, is responsible for coordinating a trip to Fairbanks to attend a Student Branch Meeting and may be responsible for making a presentation at the meeting.
7. UAA Student Program – is responsible for development of a possible additional IEEE Student Branch in the Anchorage.
3. AUTHORITY: Generates all correspondence and coordinates with student projects on behalf of the Section and seeks approval of the Executive Committee for all financial commitments. Develops a budget for Treasurer approval for all student projects/activities.
4. RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Section Chair.
